Optimus Prime

My take on Optimus Prime, defending against attacks from you-know-who.

A note on his deisgn: I gave him that big-arse-axe to even him out against Megatron (doesn't it ever bother you that the only weapon Prime got against Megatron's giant boomstick is a relatively small ion blaster?). And to further even things out with my incoming version of Megatron (which not only have a huge boomstick, but also a crap-load of other guns), I gave Prime (probably the first in the world) an energy barrier!

Notice this story is of an entirely different world of Transformers. Not the movie continuity, not G1, not Animated… a different world.
History:
Cybertron. A planet of living mechanical organism called Transformer. No one exactly sure how or when these mechanical creature came to being, but one thing for sure that they are given scientific knowledge far and above any other species. They also have the unkeen ability to shift-shape their form, form a more versatile humanoid-or other form- to a more nimble and faster vehicular form. The race was quick to adapt and became a powerful race. In these race, there exist beings with exceptional gifts in their spark (their terms for soul), a spark with a slightly different variation, named Matrix Spark. Only a few were produced (as in born) in every generation. The bearers of these matrix sparks were designated as Primes, and they were leaders of the society.

Produced under designation of Optronix, the transformer that would become the head of Autobot initially worked as an archivist during the initial cycles of his activation. During those times, all he can think of is what’s the data type and where should he put it. However, countless repetition of such activity led Optronix to become an avid observer, capable of discerning a tiniest detail on a single glance. A quality that would actually came useful in the future.

Then came the day of the expansion. Transformers from around Cybertron begin their intergalactic travel to meet the universe. Optronix had the honor to serve in the Arc Omega, where he met and befriended a Prime, a bearer of Matrix Spark: Sentinel Prime. It is also there he befriended another bot from the deep-ground exploration team: Megatron. While the initial idea of the expansion was one seeking a peaceful coexistence, their first encounter with an alien xenoform species were far from pleasant. It cost a good part of the crew (which weren’t fitted nor programmed for combat) to survive, Megatron was injured badly, and Optronix himself nearly died. Realizing that hostile encounter is a possibility, Sentinel instructed the remaining crew to receive weapons upgrade and military skills programmed into their subroutine. Optronix receive an upgrade in form of increased close range arsenal and increased armor. The upgrades were significant enough to give him a new designation: Optimus. And yet despite his new fighting capability, Optimus had grown a fear of aliens and in combat, he would rather defend than attack. Megatron, more angry than afraid, was redesigned as a Heavy Assault unit: a one bot army to take on just about anything the universe can dish out… and then send them back with compound interest.

However, after that accident, Megatron start to believe that the idea of peaceful coexistence with other lifeforms is just folly and stupid. With each planet they visited, each are filled with vicious aliens that seem more dangerous than the previous, Megatron's behavior grew wilder and more vicious, with Sentinel Prime and Optimus barely keeping him on a short leash. Sentinel noticed this, and realized Megatron is growing too dangerous. Megatron even started to secretly gather his choicest of alien techs to be incorporated in his arsenal. While initially Sentinel intend to lock Megatron away, Optimus pleaded for his friend’s freedom (citing his infamous quote to boot) and promised to help Megatron find his way back. But Megatron was too far gone. The next planet they arrived at was a peaceful planet filled with botanical-like life forms. Megatron didn’t even wait Sentinel’s permission, and landed on the planet, guns blazing. The accident turned the initially pacifistic alien race into extremely hostile in one night, and forced the crew of Omega arc to fight the plantlike aliens. After realizing that the entire planet itself is alive and will destroy the Arc unless they act, Sentinel Prime was forced to employ the power of his Matrix Spark, which eventually destroyed the entire planet. After this event, Optimus finally realized just how far down the road his friend had been.

The next time they landed on a planet, Sentinel takes no chances. He planned to lock Megatron away. Optimus too realized the dangerous turn his friend was taking, and personally helped Sentinel by luring his friend to a lock chamber. The plan worked, but Megatron was left hating Optimus for betraying him, and Sentinel for trapping him. Meanwhile, thankfully, this alien race was a peaceful ones, though very religious. Sentinel led the other transformers in the first peaceful exchange in decacycles of space travel and battle; while Optimus stayed behind to guard Megatron's cell, while trying to talk some sense to his friend’s system. However, either by some trick or perhaps Optimus' momentary lapse, Megatron somehow managed to break out of his cell and start rampage through the ship, easily overpowering Prime in a show of never before seen strength. Left half dead, Optimus was forced to watch through the screen of the Arc, as Megatron massacred their team and the alien race. His desire to protect grew so strong; his spark almost went into meltdown… or is it? In the afterglow of his defeat, something had changed in his spark. A new designation suddenly appeared in his subroutine: Optimus… Prime. He had become a prime, and his Spark had become a Matrix Spark! In a moment between life and death, Optimus gained the ability to see through the veil of space and time.

It is there he finally found the origin of the Matrix Spark:
Long ago, the Planet Cybertron was filled with berserk-out of control transformers, all inexplicably bent on scrapping each other for no apparent reason. Five most advanced races known to the galaxy had visited the still primitive world of Cybertron. The alien race realized the need of leadership in the primitive Cybertron. Therefore, they began an experiment on 12 primitive cybertronians, giving them unique CNA strain in their very spark, turning them into Matrix Sparks. They would become known in Cybertron history as the first Primes. Optimus finally realized that they exist the way they are thanks to the whim of another alien race. That the xeno-beings he had feared was indirectly responsible for his life, and right now, the Expansion is a crossroad: they can become one of them, or they can turn back to savages that they were. Prime knew his answer soon enough and he charged out with his new power. There, he watched as Sentinel Prime was on the verge of destruction and Megatron was bot-handling his twin brother, Ultra-Magnus. In rage, Optimus Prime attacked his former friend. The Matrix Spark gave Prime considerable boost in power. During their confrontation (first of many to come) Prime again tried to reason with Megatron and explained his findings: that their race was born from the whim of other races. That since they have the privilege of being selected to change, it is their solemn obligation to follow the forefounder’s footstep and help change other less fortunate race for the betterment of the galaxy. Megatron was far from impressed. In fact, he was disgusted. It is here he made his intention known: “We are the templates of the Universe! We have the power over these insignificant creatures. If what you tell me is true, than I will hunt them down, and then when I’ve decimated their races, we have proven that we, not them, are the superior race and it is our manifest destiny to shape this world as we see fit… by show of force, of I have to!”

Prime sighed. This is truly the end of their friendship. “…if that’s your final answer… they shall be your last words ever escaped your speaker. Megatron! At the end of this day, one shall fall, one shall live.”

But against Megatron’s arsenal (backed with alien technology as well), even Optimus new unquantifiable strength was not enough. It wasn’t until Sentinel Prime, realizing that Optimus has become a new Prime, sacrificed himself by giving his Matrix Spark to Prime while he himself self destruct with Megatron shortly after. Megatron survived the blast unscathed, but was left fighting a supercharged, and furious, Optimus Prime. Though Prime managed to pummel Megatron to submission, the stress of two unified matrix-type spark was too much for his frame to contain, and Prime nearly faced literal meltdown. This momentary pause gave Megatron time to escape via orbital jump to worlds unknown after he swore vengeance.

Shortly after this event, a container was built to house half of Prime’s Matrix Spark, one that became a trailer in his alternative form. Peace was somehow made with the locals, they even gave prime a new Axe to replace one he lost during combat as a token of his valiant fight. The Nova Axe christen Prime as the new leader of the Omega Arc team.

However, the Matrix Spark made Prime realized that there are many like-minded transformers out there that would most definitely answer Megatron’s call of racial genocide and universe conquest.

“What now, Prime?” Ultra Magnus asked.

“What now? One thing for sure it won't end so easily. Quite the contrary… we just began something. This isn’t the time to speak of expansion or exploration. We have to stop Megatron. There are many more of his like out there in the universe, and they will follow him. And you’ve all seen what he can do. We have an obligation, as the survivor and as the people who knew the truth of his rampage to stop him, and we will.”

“What will you have crew of the Arc Omega team do, Prime?” Prowl stepped forward.

“We’re no longer an exploration team, so Arc Omega team no longer exist. We’ll go from planet to planet, warning them of Megatron. Find other Arcs, tell them of Megatron’s deceptive design of new world order. We have to be mobile… an autonomous force unshackled by any planetary limitations… for he will be. From now one, we call ourselves: Autobots.”

Optimus Prime Equipment:
Nova Axe
An Axe which edge was made by an unique material from fragments of an Alien Sun going supernova. Given the fact that the material was strong enough to endure the heat of a supernova, Prime can quickly supercharged the axe as hot as needed to cleave through any known armor like energon juice. Note the axe can be split to two to form a double giant tomahawk. Now the Decepticons has one more reason to fear Prime.

Variable Output Ion Blasters-fire linked
For long range capability, Prime had a pair of Ion Blasters built to his new axe. The output can be adjusted to either cause big damage in single shot or rapid fire.

Active Variable Response Shield system
Originally, when Optimus was still Optronix, this system was designed to protect Cybertron's archive in the event of cataclysmic disaster such as meteor shower or earthquake. The main feature of this shield is its active response. Each one of the Hexagon in shield system can block a large caliber energon blast. Concentrated together, it could even stop a sun from going supernova. Given this fact, the shield was understandably powerful enough to block any kinds of munitions the Decepticon can dish out at Prime... except probably Megatron's BlackVortex cannon.

A hell lot of support add-ons for Prime: missile launchers, ion blasters, heavy bolters, portable radar dishes, energon-saw knife, drill, jackhammer... etc.

After assimilating Sentinel Prime's Matrix Spark, and nearly faced breakdown because of it, Prime had this Trailer built as an extension of himself and to house half of his spark. The Trailer can be remotely controlled by Prime and act as a secondary arms and legs or act on its own in a semi autonomous state. The trailer itself is fitted with an assortment of weapons to support Prime in battle. It is virtually a veritable threading fortress.
